Subroto Cup: MSP Higher Secondary School creates history

MSP Higher Secondary School, Malappuram created history as they become the first Kerala side ever to progress in to the finals of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament on Wednesday. The Malappuram school representing Kerala in the junior level matches defeated Little Angels Paradise School, Manipur 4-2 on penalties in the semi final held at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi.
MSP were behind in the sixth minute as Prikanta opened the scoring for Manipuri side early on in the match. But MSP hit back at the opponents in the 19th minute making it 1-1 through Salman K. Both teams couldn’t find any more goals and the match was decided in the penalties.
P Rabindro, skipper Sunder and M Robindra all missed from the spot for Little Angels in the penalty shoot out, while Muhamed Safeer PM and P Sufadaly were on target for Kerala. Gopi scored the only goal for Manipur in the shoot out.
In the remaining quarterfinals of the tournament, Air Force School, Subroto Park will face Sports Hostel, Tamil Nadu while FC Dynamo Kyiv will face Steqlal High School, Afghanistan on Friday. The winners of these matches will face off in the second semifinal on Saturday.
